It happened like this. I was first introduced to Marqita during a young peoples service at church. My sister-in-law works for one of Austin's premier matchmakers and took it upon herself to match me up-- free of charge! Naturally, being the outgoing bachelor I was, I was thrilled at the prospect of a new introduction. Marqita walked in wearing fashionably trendy attire. She was from New York City and you could tell. Being fashionably conscious myself, I wore a tie. After all, what girl doesn't love a guy in a tie? Fashion, matchmaking, and anticipation. The stage was set.
Always the consummate gentleman, I saved her a seat before the service started. And what appeared by all accounts to be the start of something grand merely resulted in a very mediocre encounter. She was very attractive and thought similarly about me, however the romantic spark wasn't there.
8 months passed. We would occasionally see each other at social outings where we would exchange pleasantries but nothing beyond that. It wasn't until November of 2012 that I reached out to her. I had been recording music for the past couple weeks and needed a female vocalist. I had come to find that Marqita had a background in professional music and thought I'd see if she wanted to collaborate. What was meant only to be a platonic jam session quickly grew into a blossoming romance. That was the start of our courtship. 6 months later, on the stern of a boat, I asked for her hand in marriage. She said yes!
Looking back on it, I've no doubt that it was a timing thing. We were both at different places when we first met and neither of our hearts were ready for each others. I suppose that's the beautiful thing about our faith. God's plan is perfect. And as we dance through this world together, He will always keep perfect time.
